For the first time, our urology and nephrology programs are each ranked No. 1 in the United States by U.S. News & World Report in the publication’s “Best Hospitals 2013” rankings. We are both delighted and humbled by this recognition.

Both programs are part of Cleveland Clinic’s Glickman Urological & Kidney Institute, where we have placed our focus on patient care, innovation and research for those with medical kidney diseases and medical and surgical urological problems. I believe the U.S.  News rankings reflect that focus.

Because of our disease-oriented institute model of care at Cleveland Clinic — where we pool our resources and our expertise to better serve our patients — our urologists and nephrologists have worked closely together to achieve better and better outcomes. Our areas of expertise include: benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), blood pressure and electrolyte disorders, chronic kidney disease (CKD), dialysis, end-stage renal disease, endourology and stone disease, female urology, genitourinary reconstruction, kidney transplantation, male fertility, minority men’s health, pediatric urology, polycystic kidney disease (PKD), sexual function, and urologic oncology (kidney, prostate, bladder and testes cancers).

Now that we have reached the top of the rankings, we have a new goal: to stay at No. 1 by continuing to improve our patient care.
